Coming back to the age-old question of where it is our thoughts come from, I would like to revisit the wisdom and discoveries of the ancient saints and sages. There is a branch of yoga called Raja Yoga, which literally translates to “The Royal Path of Yoga”.
Swami Vivekananda, who had a deep and profound understanding of Raja Yoga wrote as follows: “The basic goal of the teachings of Raja Yoga is to learn how to concentrate our minds and thereby discover the innermost recesses of our minds, their content, and then form our own conclusions.”
This philosophy focuses on the study of our internal nature and shows how our bodies and minds are intimately connected, giving credence to the age old saying, “In a healthy body there is a healthy mind and vice versa.”
Swami Vivekananda’s profound studies focused on the importance of our breath and how, through the “magic functioning” of our nervous systems, our breath is converted and become thoughts, our thoughts become words, our words become deeds, our deeds became actions, and our actions shape our characters and destinies.
Raja Yoga provides one of the only logical, philosophical explanations that are present today which can provide an answer as to where our thoughts originate.
