As we all know, repetition is an excellent way to learn. I therefore cannot emphasize enough the important role our nervous systems play in helping us to make and perpetuate the necessary changes required to live more balanced lives. In one of my earlier blogs, I talked about the serious impact that stress has on our nervous systems, and how the negative consequences can deplete our vital energies.
Although we are not always consciously aware of it, our brains and nervous systems form some of the most complex computer systems that have ever existed. Together, the brain and nervous system act as a very sophisticated satellite processing centres where all information is stored, processed, and redirected back to us so we can make decisions. Our extremely delicate brains and nervous systems record all of the information processed as impressions (the yogic word for impression is samsakaras).
Our nervous systems act like photographic plates where both positive and negative impressions are recorded. The cumulative effect of stress can be extremely adverse, not only on your nervous system but on your life as a whole.
We are fortunate the ancient yogis understood the importance of the nervous system and developed techniques, like concentration meditation, to help alleviate the negative effects of stress and bring harmony, serenity, and balance to our lives.
