In my previous blog, I discussed how yoga helps integrate us harmoniously. Unfortunately, many of us are unconscious of the incessant stream of thoughts that occupy our minds on a daily basis. Scientific research shows that, on an average day, a human being processes 70,000 – 100,000 thoughts. Most of these thoughts are the same, repetitive, worn out thoughts and erroneous beliefs, and because our minds remain unchanged, we keep creating the same realities and dysfunction in our lives.
According to Yogic Philosophy, all of our thoughts are recorded as impressions (samskaras) in our brains and nervous systems in much the same way as an image is developed on a photographic plate. The fundamentals and foundations of Yogic Philosophy are based on the premise that a well-maintained nervous system is at the core of a fully integrated human being.
Ancient yogis understood the power and potency of the nervous system, hence, they used their powerful minds and life enhancing thoughts to tap into the subtler forces of the universe. Once you realize your thoughts are some of the most powerful forces of the universe, you will become more vigilant, and monitor your thoughts more carefully.
Through the practice of yoga, you will develop self-awareness, and through self-awareness, you can change your thoughts, think differently, and create more positive outcomes in your life. The persistence of your practice will pay high dividends as your new, life-enriching thoughts take root in your brain and nervous system. Once you understand how yoga can change your life, you will be more inclined to practise it consistently.
